Blue whales are returning to Spain’s Atlantic coast after a 40-year absence. There is no consensus on what is causing the return. Some experts attribute this to climate change, others suggest the whales are experiencing a form of homesickness or ancestral memory, still others suggest it may be the consequence of Spain having finally banned whaling in 1986 (when whales had been hunted to almost extinction). Whatever the cause, it is a great sign of what is possible if only we try.
